Belfairs Redevelopment

Following the patient survey conducted in October 2011, the practice has decided the needs of the population will be best served by keeping sites on both sides of the A127, allowing easier access to all services for all the patients. Currently the Belfairs Branch, has limited space, with not all services being adequately catered for within the existing premises. The practice has embarked on the redesign of the current branch, with the aim to improve the functionality of existing space and to increase the number of consulation rooms, allowing the housing of more doctors and outlying services, such as phlebotomy, counselling and the midwifery service.

Adaptions to the practice raised from the patient forum include a private consultation booth at reception and improved display/tannoy system for alerting patients to their appointments. We aim to increase the amount of natural light within the practice and improve the ambience, moving away from a sterile clinical environment, to a warmer personal feel.

Below are some of the design ideas

Ground Floor Plan

The above is a schematic of the ground floor. To aid with scale, the current waiting room size has been unchanged in this design. There will be three extra consulting rooms, with an increase in their clinical size. The treatment room will undergo an overhaul, and the there will be 2 dedicated rooms for additional services such as phlebotomy and counselling, which at present have to share space with the other clinical professionals.

Reception & Notes Store

With over 10,000 patients registered at the practice, there are over 15,000 notes to store. Although all the consultations since 2007 have been recorded electronically, patients prior to this time have all their records stored in paper form, and these must be housed in a safe and secure environment.

With the redevelopment we hope to be able to allow as much natural light into the building design, which will help provide a less sterile and turgid atmosphere, which closed rooms with no windows can produce.
